House style and theme
When creating my music video, magazine advert and digipak I ensured to make a recognisable ‘
house style’ so that the theme of the album will be easily identified by its target audience (13-21 year olds) in result working together to promote the album. The extended metaphor that runs through all my three products is the feeling of happiness and relief from getting away from a relationship which is reinforced within the lyrics of my song choice.
Music Video
My music video has the purpose to entertain its audience and also, to create a character that the fans of Taylor Swift can personally identify and relate to, therefore feeling relief and happiness when the video ends as she has forgotten and let go of her relationship. Not only did I want my audience to feel the way my actresses felt but I wanted them to be able to relate to the lyrics and be able to understand what she felt and why she felt it. Behind the song ‘we are never getting back together’ I wanted to amplify the lyrics and message by using a narrative and performance base. The chorus is where I wanted the message to come across the most as it was the main part of the song, this is the part of the song that I wanted people to remember with the flashing background and close ups of my actresses so that the focus is on her and nothing else, by doing this it will allow my audience to be able to connect to the song. The artist I chose will naturally help sales and simulate word-of-mouth, as she is of a very young age with such great talent.
With my music video I will be displaying it on vimeo, this is a website where all music video can be published, it is a website where anyone can post their videos not just big music artists like Rhianna or Ellie Goulding but students can too. With publishing my music video on vimeo this is one way of measuring success as if people watch it will tell you how many people have viewed. This highlights success because the higher the numbers of views it has, the more people are watching it and telling other people about it.
Furthermore the music video is my main product to attract my audience, whereas my album cover and poster promote it to bring it to people’s attention, they are selling the song and music video which is the ultimate goal for them.
Magazine Advert
The purpose of the magazine advert is literally to promote the album and contribute to the image and style of the artist I wish to create. I feel that magazine advert successfully represents this as I chose to have very bold colour such as black and red, I picked these colours as the album I am recreating it is called red. The colour red conotates that my actress has power and confidence, thus linking with lyrics represents that she has the upper hand in the relationship. This will appeal to my target audience as they will appreciate how bold and out there the colour is, pop genre is all about being out there. In terms of the image of my actress looking directly at the camera means that my audience will recognise my poster is representing my album. With my image on my magazine I used the same effect as what I used on my digipak as it kept the theme and house style, this displays that all of my images are all linked together. On my music advert I also have reviews from magazines and newspapers, this helps sell my album as it shows that other people have listened to it and reviewed it, this will persuade people to buy it even more because they want to see if it lives up to their 5 star rating. Not only having ratings on my magazine advert I also have where you can purchase the album/song, highlighting that is available for all kinds of people, not just to my target audience.
My magazine advert is there to promote my music video, by having the rating on the front and very clear to the public eye is helping to make people want to watch my music video as they want to see what it is like and why they have given it a 5 star rating.
This can highlight success because it will show that more people are seeing the poster around which will make the vimeo views go up. This is all linked to the music video because without all of the advertisement then the hits wouldn’t go up because no one will know about it to go and watch it.
Digipak
The purpose of the digipak is to attract my audience to want to listen to my CD, this means that I will have to make it look attractive and appealing for it to catch my audience’s eye. Within my digipak I continued using my house style. I kept the same red from what I was using on my magazine advert. With my images, to attract the audience I used a face on picture as the genre is pop on the front cover, this highlights that the whole album is about her and only about her. Not only did I use the same house colours I put the same effect on the pictures as I did on the magazine advert, this displays that everything is linked and to do with one product. The title of my album is ‘Red’ this signifies that she is strong and powering over the opposite sex reinforcing the message from the music video about being strong and happy about breaking up. With the other photos inside the album I used images that would relate to the music video, for example the image behind the actual CD is an image of a sparkler up close the camera, this relating to the video and reminding people of that specific part for them to remember. With my digipak I felt that featuring her in most of the photos will let my audience remember this album and be able to relate to her as I wanted my younger audience to feel comfortable whenever they saw images of her.
With having such bright colours on both my magazine and digipak this is really helping with the promotion and selling of my music video which is what they are there to do. They make people interested to find out more about what is going on.
